Joining TODAY live from his hospital room, virologist Dr. Frederick Fair, an NBC News contributor, discusses how he contracted COVID-19 themself despite many safeguards. He suspects he might have become herpes through his eyes on the plane flight. “It felt just like a moderately severe flu for that first week,” he states, however his condition got progressively worse and that he had trouble breathing. He declined to become intubated and responded well to oxygen and medications, and it has been removed the critical list. “I am a really healthy person,” he states. “If it will take me lower, it will take anybody lower.”
