Using the U.S. setting another record in recently reported coronavirus cases Friday, thousands have collected at President Jesse Trump’s Independence Day celebration at Mount Rushmore — and couple of are putting on protective masks.

Nor was there any proof of social distancing within the tightly packed audience put together for Trump’s speech along with a fireworks display.

Trump did offer because of “the doctors, nurses and scientists working tirelessly to get rid of the virus.”

Republican Gov. Kristi Noem, a Trump ally, had stated social distancing wouldn’t be needed throughout the event and masks could be optional. Event organizers would provide masks to anybody who wanted them and planned to screen attendees for signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

Many parades and fireworks displays nationwide were canceled within the holiday weekend, with confirmed cases climbing in 40 states. The U.S. saw 52,300 recently reported cases Friday, based on the tally stored by Johns Hopkins College.

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, released a tweet Friday night advocating Americans to “Practice proper hygiene, social distancing & put on a mask while in close closeness to other people.”
