Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, Health Minister Tyler Shandro and chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw will update the COVID-19 situation within the province on Wednesday.

The update uses Hinshaw recommended the 2009 week the current boost in COVID-19 cases happens because most health limitations were removed included in the government’s “Open for Summer” plan.

The program saw Alberta lift almost all COVID-19 limitations, including ending asymptomatic testing and masking in many settings, no more requiring mandatory isolation for close contacts of positive cases, and also the finish of contacts being notified of exposure.

On Tuesday, Alberta Health stated 1,434 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed within the last 24 hrs from about 11,900 tests.

Alberta’s positivity rate sitting at approximately 12.2 percent.

By Tuesday, there have been 822 Albertans in hospital with COVID-19, 212 who were in ICU. That’s up from 803 and 198 on Monday.

“Of the 212 in ICU, 91 percent are unvaccinated or partly vaccinated,” Hinshaw tweeted on Tuesday.

Nine additional deaths were reported within the last 24 hrs, getting the provincial total to two,471.

By Tuesday, there have been 18,265 active COVID-19 cases in Alberta.
