Alberta is altering how they report COVID-19 deaths after facing debate within the dying of the 14-year-old boy whose dying was related to COVID-19, but died from cancer.

On Tuesday, chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw announced that the 14-year-old with severe health problems passed away of COVID-19.

More information provided after indicated COVID-19 wasn’t a contributing factor to dying, based on Hinshaw.

“This incident is responsible for suffering for a lot of, and again I am sorry with this.”

Hinshaw announced Thursday that continuing to move forward the province wouldn’t be openly reporting any COVID-19 deaths in people under 18 before the review process continues to be completed.

Based on Hinshaw, Alberta Health will “prioritize precision over timeliness in these instances.”
